Recovering from Lyme Disease

Hi! My name is Theresa Haselmayer.

I am a chronic Lyme and autoimmune illness overcomer! I am also a Registered Nurse with 30 years of experience in various hospital and home care settings. Through my own personal story I made the transition from working in the medical world to the holistic world. I am now a certified holistic practitioner specializing in the reversal of Chronic Lyme disease, Autoimmune illness and undiagnosed troubling symptoms. I am an ILADS ( International Lyme and associated Diseases Society) associate member. I am an Associate of the Uprooting Lyme Clinic based in the Hudson Valley, NY and I own and run Foundations Wellness Coaching in Southwest Ohio where I help those with Lyme, suspected Lyme, Autoimmune and undiagnosed troubling illness to recover.

My main message here is – YES you can recover your health and start really living again. There are REAL answers for why you’ve been suffering and we are going to explore those here. You are going to be inspired by my story and others’ stories of recovering their health. We will explore together the basics of WHY we are encountering so many of these debilitating symptoms and illnesses and WHAT we can do to turn things back around.

I remember the 15 years of feeling like I had the flu- every single day. This is inconceivable and seems unreal to most people unless you’ve been there. I suffered with Crushing fatigue, ( like I had the flu) achiness all over, disabling pain, heart pounding, strange rashes, strange urinary symptoms, strange TMJ and ear stuffiness issues, facial pain, Irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, vision issues that came and went, neuropathies , burning tongue sensations, itching issues, twitching issues, restless legs, Tourettes type tics that came and went, feeling like bugs were crawling on me, shooting random pains, rotating joint pains, pelvic floor dysfunction, ringing in my ears, and anxiety and depression. Goodness this list got long!!

All of these symptoms were diagnosed as idiopathic, or “syndrome” illnesses, that which has no explanation- or given a latin word diagnosis that described the symptoms but told me nothing about the cause (fibromyalgia for example) . I amassed quite a collection of these diagnoses and symptoms over those 15 years. I became essentially disabled though I tried to hide it the best I could ( I looked fairly normal, so, it seemed no one believed me anyway) I went from doctor to doctor, conventional and integrative as well as a handful of alternative practitioners.

You see I was an experienced Registered Nurse. I was very good at understanding the system and working it. I trusted the system, fully. But why wasn’t the system I loved and served all those years helping me? At all.

In 2015 just before my son’s wedding I got a Chronic Lyme disease diagnosis. I was certain it was not true – after all I had had 3 negative Lyme tests, and I didn’t have what I understood to be the typical clinical presentation of Lyme disease. This new test wasn’t even legitimate I was told by an infectious disease doctor. However in my desperation to figure out what was wrong with me, why I was so sick and why no one could ever figure it out, I decided to press in to this new diagnosis and see what could be done. I had been told all those years that nothing could really be done for me but to give me an antidepressant. I knew I was truly sick and not clinically depressed. Others who knew me also knew that there was something really wrong with my situation. But why couldn’t doctors figure out what was wrong? Why were all the blood tests normal when I felt so bad? I prayed for death regularly. I was depressed because I was so
hopelessly ill. Well now, maybe this new diagnosis held out a small fragment of hope for my recovery.

Going about trying to get well from chronic Lyme disease turned out to be another nightmare in and of itself! There is so much conflicting information out on the internet that I had panic attacks just trying to decide which way to turn. It all cost a lot of money and nothing was going to be covered by insurance but without trying something, all I had was a life not worth living anyway. Why was the system so broken and unfair? Why did I keep meeting more and more people who were in the same boat as me? Even children!

Long story short I opted to go the holistic route. That was a huge leap for me. I really wanted to keep it strictly medical but in the end, weighing out all my options, the least risky and least expensive way seemed to be the holistic route. It wasn’t an easy, straight path that’s for sure but after a year of it I ended up feeling some noticeable improvements! I began to believe that I would really and truly finally recover from this thing that had stolen my quality of life. Right about that time many people were finding out about my recovery process and wanting to talk to me. I had started an informal little coaching practice without even trying. I decided to formalize my education and was accepted into a holistic practitioner program based out of the Hudson Valley in New York. It is called the Uprooting Lyme clinic. I’d never heard of any such
training and it naturally intrigued me. What I learned there was remarkable. I discovered the connection between chronic Lyme, autoimmune disease and undiagnosed troubling symptoms and the root causes behind them. I also learned what to do to help my body an others to recover from chronic Lyme, autoimmune, and any set of troubling symptoms really.

The most exciting part was starting my formal practice- Foundations Wellness Coaching in Norwood Ohio, and helping others to recover from these troubling, debilitating situations. In just 2 years I have worked with well over 100 people and seen many people make amazing recoveries ranging from full recovery (they’ve been at it more than a few months) to noticeable improvements in symptoms, even when they’d already tried so many other things that didn’t work. Even older folks and those with disabling diagnoses have made noticeable to remarkable improvements! I learned how to use Zyto testing to help zero in on what people’s road blocks to healing were, and to help me put together a holistic recovery strategy for my clients that has given them a wide range of results. I learned that the traditional model of diagnosing an insurance covered disease and matching it up with the appropriate insurance covered pill or procedure was just not cutting it for many people. I see in my office every single day once broken and hopeless people now celebrating with me their regular improvements. I see the look of joy, life and hope coming back into their faces as they come in week after week. They put in the hard work, and renewed vitality is their reward. Some of them dramatically so. Most of them cannot believe they could make these gains. This blog is all about giving hope to those with chronic Lyme, autoimmune disease or undiagnosed troubling symptoms who’ve lost hope
or never knew they could hope at all for health recovery.

As for me- today I am better than I have been in over 20 years. Even better than that- I am making progress against symptoms that started in my childhood! Gastro intestinal and nervous type things that I always just put up with and thought were just genetic. I have almost ZERO anxiety or depression on a daily basis, no pain, no fatigue, good energy all day, normal urinary and pelvic floor systems, NO TMJ or facial pain, no IBS, I can tolerate many foods I used to not be able to tolerate, no itching or neuropathies and many other gains. It’s been a true miraculous turn around. My life mission is now to help and teach others how to make these same types of gains. To help you restore your hope and your dreams for life once again. No matter how insignificant or far gone you feel your situation is, there is always hope to make things better when you give your body what it needs and remove the roadblocks to recovery.

Stay tuned to this blog where I will be weekly discussing what some of those road blocks are and how to help yourself recover effectively and naturally. Here’s to Hope !!
